How Realistic are the Flames in an Electric Fireplace?
Yes, the flames look real, but not to the same degree as a bioethanol fire, gas fireplace or stove. Modern electric fires have become increasingly more authentic as the interest in the product has risen. The professional manufacturers produce modern electric fireplaces focusing on the environment, realistic flames, and designs. In earlier models and mass-produced electric fireplaces, where the price is the primary competitive parameter, a more TV-like flame will often occur.
As with all other industries, the technology has made it possible to create a stylish electric fireplace with a realistic flame. This has been created through some optical techniques, where LED lighting, holograms, images, and videos have been used to create the most realistic flame.
However, we must emphasise: The fireplace never has a "real" flame!
Warm and Crackling Sounds in the Electric Fireplace
Manufacturers of electric fireplaces use many tricks to imitate a traditional fireplace. There are thus built-in realistic crackling sounds, which are associated with the burning of wood. The heat effect also contributes to the classic fireplace feeling, because the heat can be felt completely on the body. Although the electric fireplace in terms of heat does not have the same effect, the experience is almost the same. This is because an electric fireplace heats with radiant heat in the area, while stoves most often use a convection system. This distributes heat around the house, thus heating the entire house.
In addition, the fireplaces often contain soot and smoke, which are conditions we often associate with the stove. They are not necessarily the best from an environmental perspective, but they are associated with the fireplace.
How Real Does the Flames Look?
It is a matter of taste! We fear, for fear of disappointing others, that the fireplace flame will never look 100% real. It is created electronically and thus does not have the same appearance as a real flame. That being said, we would like to emphasise that the fireplace's flame has never looked more real and almost looks like a real flame.
It is true that in the above we contradict ourselves, but as a user who expects an electric fireplace, the flame is very real. If, on the other hand, you are thinking of a "real" fireplace with real fire, you should direct your thoughts toward a bioethanol fire or gas fireplace. In that case, an electric fireplace will not meet your needs.
Judge for Yourself - Is the Flame Real Enough?
We made a video of a burning electric fireplace, which is installed in a living room environment. We are impressed, but it must be up to you to assess whether you are satisfied with an electric fireplace. If you need to experience the electric fireplace in real life, we recommend a visit to our showroom, where several models are on display.
